Position: Water Project Manager

Location: Sydney CBD

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage complex projects and contracts relating to water management, recycled water and irrigation to meet defined time, quality, risk and budget parameters. Deliver projects and contracts in line with the current processes and policies.
  • Develop specifications, technical investigations, contracts and other service delivery arrangements for water projects and programs, and ensure service provider compliance with specifications through appropriate controls and effective performance management.
  • Effectively scope, budget, plan, forecast and manage multiple projects and contracts.
  • Prepare and maintain Contract Management Plans, research and monitor service delivery trends, establish appropriate service benchmarks, develop strategies and initiatives which challenge the service levels currently provided and establish the basis of re-specification of services.
  • Develop and manage service specifications, contracts and other service delivery arrangements for parks and open spaces.
  • Ensure service providers compliance with specifications and that appropriate controls and effective performance management systems are in operation.
  • Provide effective risk management through proactive identification, prioritisation, treatment, monitoring and reporting of risks and compliance with legislation and guidelines.
  • Undertake detailed review, critical analysis and assessment of technical reports provided by consultants and provide expert advice and clear direction to resolve issues and drive improved water outcomes.
  • Produce high quality, professional reports and correspondence, tailored to suit the identified audience, outlining objectives, explaining implications, risks and options in a concise manner.
  • Liaise, provide professional advice and communicate extensively with both internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to customers, authorities, service providers, residents and ratepayers, operational staff, senior staff and other levels of government.

Essential Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications at degree level in Engineering, Sustainability or Environmental Management or a similar engineering or science discipline with experience in water management.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing, implementing and monitoring water projects and strategies to meet organisational objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading, managing and controlling multiple projects and contracts that provide value for money, are delivered on time and achieve corporate objectives.
  • Project management experience and a track record in managing all stages of the project lifecycle including feasibility, consultants and contractors, documentation, authority approvals, procurement processes, contract administration, process development and implementation, risk management and handover.
  • Advanced problem solving, negotiation, interpersonal and decision making skills.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills with experience in analysing data and reports to draw out key findings, provide clear advice, present information effectively, and to interact with a broad range of senior staff, technical specialists, operational staff community members and other stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimum supervision, manage tasks and to consistently produce quality work to agreed deadlines, including the ability to effectively manage competing priorities and interests in a high volume environment.
  • Class C NSW driver’s licence or equivalent.
